What to Expect on the Day of KYBELLA
When you come into our practice for your KYBELLA treatment, strategic markings for the injection sites will be made and you will either have a topical numbing agent applied, or we can provide you with an ice pack to help with any pain or discomfort. This will be discussed during your initial consultation.
A typical session will usually have 20 to 30 (possibly up to 50) injections made under the chin. Once injected, the acid gradually begins to kill fat cells, which will be metabolized by your body over the next few weeks.
KYBELLA Recovery
After your injection, you will be able to return home, although you should expect some temporary swelling and bruising, which will subside within a few weeks. The swelling will be at its peak the first few days following your injection, but this is very common. You can help lessen the swelling by using an ice or cold pack after your treatment.
Other ways to help the swelling are applying a warm compress the first few days, wearing a chin strap for additional compression, and firmly massaging the treated area. You should take over-the-counter pain medication to reduce any pain or swelling during your recovery.
You will need to return for follow-up visits about a month after each session, but our Patient Coordinator will schedule your next appointment date. Do keep in mind that if you have post-Kybella treatment swelling, the swelling will have to subside before you can get your next injection. If you are still experiencing swelling before your next scheduled treatment, please let us know.
